Game Friday

The football game on Friday as all you know that keep up with the pack was the season opener. We got beat by Mizzou, but we made a game out of it until the 3rd quarter. But a big part of football games is half time. The Marching Band comes out and does their show, gets the crowd going, then the Tubas come to up to the stands and play their tune.
But there was one slight problem. The UNR Marching band for one, ran on the field which they didn't used to do. They used to march on there in form, and secondly, they didn't even do a show. I used to be in Marching Band, and watching UNR's band, and how pathetic they were on the Home Opener, made me actually miss band, because I played in the Reed Marching Band, and we were good. A High School better than a college marching band is pretty sad.
There is a good reason for all of this, there almost was no band program this year. There was no recruiting from the local high schools, so the band is tiny, and I actually heard that there is one clarinet. Just one. The band barely got the funding to bring it back for one more year, and maybe another, but they need more members. I do feel for them, but as small as their band is, they still could have marched while they were playing instead of just playing in formation. They moved for about 20 seconds, and that was it for them. I suppose that after seeing 4 years of the University of Arizona Marching Band, it really makes you appreciate small things like great marching and arrangements.
